SC should admit its previous mistakesof endorsing martial laws: CJP Faez Isa.

ISLAMABAD -- During the hearing of theSupreme Court Practice and ProcedureAct case on Tuesday, Chief Justice ofPakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa madea compelling remark, highlighting thehavoc being wrought by individualswielding unchecked power.He astutely observed that when martiallaw is imposed, the solemn oath taken byjudges often fades into oblivion. In con trast, when parliament enacts laws, thejudiciary swiftly reacts, holding lawmak ers accountable to their oath.The CJP boldly asserted that the apexcourt should acknowledge its past mis takes concerning its endorsement of mar tial laws.Critics, particularly lawyers, have his torically voiced concerns about the topcourt's perceived misuse of its jurisdictionunder Article 184 (3) of the Constitutionof Pakistan.A full court bench of the Supreme Courtis hearing petitions challenging the SC(Practice and Procedure) Act 2023.
