PMA establishes two dog-bite vaccination points in Karachi.

KARACHI -- Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is starting a free dog-bite vaccination services from 12 pm to 8 pm at PMA House Garden Road Karachi and at PMA's Karachi Central Hospital in FB Area for citizens of Karachi.

This was announced by General Secretary PMA Karachi Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro during a press conference held at PMA House Karachi. Ex-General Secretary PMA Karachi Dr Shershah Syed and Joint Secretary PMA Karachi Dr Ismail Memon were also present on this occasion.

Dr Ghafoor Shoro said PMA with help of a USA based Karachi citizen is launching free dog-bite vaccination services free of cost at PMA House and Karachi Central Hospital to facilitate citizens of Karachi.

He said PMA was extremely concerned about the situation of dog bite and misery associated with this condition. He said in the majority of the cases, the victims usually were unable to receive basic, initial and emergency medical aid. Usually patients need surgical cleaning of wound, suturing of traumatic tissue if required and vaccination against rabies if the dog is rabid. Unfortunately in majority of cases the status of dog bite is usually not known and as a preventive measure, the victim receives vaccination against rabies.

He appreciated that Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Indus Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital for providing vaccination to dog bite victims. He said PMA believed that the government should take immediate steps to prevent dog bites in the community on emergency basis. Any citizen, men, women and children should not suffer because of dog bite and no Pakistani should face traumatic death because of this condition.
