Foundation stone laid for grid station in Mansehra.

MANSEHRA -- Federal energy minister Khurram Dastagir Khan on Monday laid the foundation stone of the 765kv grid station saying the project will be completed in record three years.

'This grid station, biggest in the country's history, will supply 2160 megawatts of electricity from the Dasu hydropower project to the national grid in the first stage,' the minister told the project launching ceremony in Sawan Mera area here.

He said the World Bank would provide Rs24 billion to the federal government for the mega project, which was to help address the country's power crisis.

Mr Khan said the energy project would also contribute to the country's economic development through creation of massive employment opportunities.

He said 1,088 kanals of land had been acquired for the grid station.

The minister said two transmission lines would be laid first from the Dasu hydropower project to this grid station and then from there to the national grid at the cost of Rs28 billion.

He said the exercise to lay transmission lines would begin in a few months' time.

Mr Khan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's administration was striving for the people's development.
