Weekend Traffic Restrictions Until Tsagaan Sar

As Tsagaan Sar celebrations approach, traffic congestion in Ulaanbaatar increases, especially during weekends. City officials have decided to enforce license plate restrictions over the next two weekends in order to limit automobiletraffic.

Vehicles that have license plate numbers ending in even digits (2, 4, 6, 8 and 0) are allowed to participate in traffic on Saturday, January 30 and February 6. Drivers of vehicles with license plate numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3 , 5, 7 and 9) are allowed to drive on Sunday, January 31 and February 7.

On Tsagaan Sar celebration days, from February 9 to 11, traffic restrictions will not apply. Schools, daycare centers, banks, and offices will resume regular operating hours on Friday, February 12.

Until 2013, the first couple days of Tsagaan Sar celebrations were public holidays, in accordance with the law on public holidays. On November 28, 2013, the law was amended and made the first three days of Tsagaan Sar celebrations public holidays.
