Turkish defence exhibition opens avenues for public, private sector cooperation.

ISLAMABAD -- The first Turkish defence exhibition in Pakistan concluded on Saturday with signing of an MOU and opening of avenues of cooperation between the public and private sector of both countries.

It was the first single country defence exhibition, organised with the support of Defence Export Promotion Organisation, Ministry of Defence Production, Pakistan and Presidency of Defence Industries, Republic of Turkey.

The exhibition was the follow-up of recent agreement made between Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in various fields including the defence sector.

The defence sector of Turkey holds such exhibition after every two years and the 5th edition of the Turkey Defence Exhibition 'Defence Port Turkey' was organised in Pakistan.

Currently, Pakistan was set to export 40 Super Mushshak in cooperation between the Pakisan Aeronautical Complex Kamra and their Turkish counterparts.

To fulfill the needs of Pakistan navy in light of regional scenario, ASFAT- Military Factory and Shipyard Management, a Turkish state-owned defence contractor, is building four Milgem class corvettes.

Two out of four 100 metre long small warship will be built in Turkey and two in the naval dockyard in Karachi.

The construction of the first vessel has already been launched in Istanbul on Sept 29 while work on the second one will commence in Karachi in early 2020.

The cooperation with Turkish firms will help Pakistan upgrade its certain aging navy ships with modern electronics and weapon systems.
