Teachers' demo against plan to change universities act.

LAHORE -- Teachers and employees of public universities on Wednesday held a protest at Punjab University New Campus against the proposed Public Sector Universities Amendment Act.

The protest was led by PU Academic Staff Association President Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, General Secretary Javed Sami, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Teacher Staff Association (TSA) President Dr Faheem Gauhar, GCU ASA President Dr Atif, PU Officers' Welfare Association Vice President Dr Tauqeer, PU Employees' Welfare Association President Nasir Rehmat.

Mr Chaudhry said the staffers would not compromise on the autonomy of the universities and the teaching community across the province was deeply disturbed by the draft circulating in the media.

He said the proposed act was meant to abolish the autonomy and freedom of the universities.
