Swat youth donate blood for thalassaemia patients.

SWAT -- The youth of Swat donated blood for thalassaemia-hit children to mark the World Blood Donor Day in Mingora here on Sunday. The blood donation camp was organised by Al-Fajar Foundation in collaboration with Life Savers Pakistan.

The organisers said the day was marked on the birthday of Karl Landsteiner who had discovered the blood groups.

'It was Karl Landsteiner who had discovered blood groups and before that blood transfusion was made without knowing or matching blood groups. After discovery of blood groups, it was possible to save the lives of millions of people by matched blood transfusion,' said Sar Zamin Khan, a coordinator of the foundation.

Organizers of the camp said that people must come forward to save lives of children having thalassaemia by donating blood during the lockdown.
