Swat police arrest man over honour killing.

SWAT -- Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested the man, who was allegedly involved in the killing of his niece and a man in the name of honour on June 28.

Police said that the arrested man murdered his 18-year-old niece and a 22-year-old man for having illicit relations at Kotanai area in Khwaza Khela tehsil.

'The accused managed to flee after murdering them. Khwaza Khela police started search for him,' said SSP Farman Khan. He added that police arrested him, filed case against him under 311 and recovered the gun used in the crime.

He said that during investigation, the man confessed to his crime. 'Since it is an honour killing case we (police) are party in the case and will fight it against the alleged killer in the court. It is the government's policy that the station house officer is a party in honour cases against the accused,' said the SSP.

According to police record, about nine persons including two men and seven women were killed in the name of honour in the district while 10 persons including four men and six women committed suicide in the month of June.
