Suspected hitman killed in Manghopir 'encounter'.

KARACHI -- A suspected hitman was killed and his two accomplices were arrested after an encounter jointly carried out by Rangers and police in the Manghopir area on Saturday, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of criminals in Manghopir, the paramilitary force and the police conducted a raid, but the suspects after seeing the law enforcers resorted to indiscriminate firing.

A Rangers spokesperson said that during the exchange of gunfire, three suspects - Abdullah Mehsud, Shairullah alias Sheena and Mohammed Sohail - suffered bullet wounds and were arrested. Their two accomplices managed to escape taking advantage of darkness, he said.

The wounded were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced Mehsud dead.

Other two suspects were later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for further treatment.

Hospital sources said that wounded Sohail, who sustained bullet wounds on the face and in the left leg, was just 15 years old. Shairullah was shot in the hand.

The Rangers spokesperson said that deceased Mehsud was a notorious 'target killer'.

Sharing details of his alleged criminal acts, the official said that he was involved in wounding a man and two women over non-payment of extortion near the Sohrab Goth bridge in March 2009.
