State Special Commission Responds to Foot-and-mouth Outbreak

The second meeting of a working group of the State Special Commission took place on July 23, to discuss current measures against the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease among livestock in Bayan-Ulgii Province and required funding solutions.

Chief of the State Veterinary and Breeding Agency, M.Galbadrakh, spoke about the outbreak in the province and said, “A total of 1,958,707 livestock in 13 soums of the province have been examined so far. Among them, 1,181 were diagnosed with the disease and 1,166 of them placed under quarantine.

At the disease focus of Sagsai soum, 21 dead cattle and one carcass from Ulaankhus soum were all disposed of under regulated sanitation measures. In total 98.9 percent of Bayan-Ulgii’s livestock prone to the disease have been vaccinated so far.”
