Six police acquitted of bribery charges.

FAISALABAD -- A court discharged on Thursday a bribery case registered against six policemen a day earlier, when an alleged owner of a gambling den told the judge he never greased their palms for any favour.

The Civil Lines police had on Wednesday registered a case against six policemen -- former Lorry Ada police post head Ahmad Raza, Safdar Husain, Shabbir, Tanvir, Mujahad Hussain and Abdul Wahid - for patronising a gambling den in Tyre Market.

The case was registered on the complaint of Civil Lines Station House Officer Mazhar Irfan, who had stated that his subordinates had been receiving bribe from a notorious gambling den owner Abdul Waheed for patronising him.

Similarly, he said these policemen had also been receiving bribe from an alleged drug-peddler, Rana Shabbir, besides minting money from vendors, push-cart owners, hotels, shop owners etc at Lorry Ada.

The SHO said the suspects were a stigma for the police department.

On the orders of the SHO the suspects were arrested after registration of a case on Wednesday and were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Shujat Riaz on Thursday.
