Sindh High Court (SHC) here Thursday heard the constitutional petition of Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor against the University Act 2018. During previous hearing on September 19, the honourable court had sought comments from the provincial government.

As per details, a double-bench of SHC comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Agha Faisal heard the constitutional petition and the government lawyer filed para-wise comments. He maintained that the petitioner has no locus standi to file the instant petition. He said the Sindh Universities Institutes Laws (Amendment) Bill 2018 was presented before the Provincial Assembly of Sindh under the provisions of the Rules of Procedure of the assembly and no violation of any law was made. The bill was presented essentially to bring uniformity in the Acts of all public sector universities.
