SHRC unveils second strategic plan to protect rights of the weak and marginalized.

KARACHI -- The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) unveiled its three year strategic plan prioritizing actions under its legal mandate to strengthen redress mechanisms, increase awareness among the public particularly vulnerable populations on protection mechanisms, review and identify legislations for better protection of rights of weak and marginalized, monitor the state of implementation of existing laws and functioning of protection mechanisms. The SHRC, established under the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act 2011 for the promotion and protection of human rights in Sindh, also presented its progress under its previous strategic plan highlighting the Commission's successes in reviewing laws, receiving and addressing complaints, and training police, judiciary and other stakeholders responsible to provide relief and protection to victims of human rights abuses.

Syeda Shela Raza, Minister for Women Development was the chief guest while Barrister Barrister Pir Mujib Ul Haq, Chairman, Standing Committee on Human Rights, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Provincial Assembly was the guest of honor on the occasion. Justice (R) Majida Rizvi, Chairperson SHRC opened the launch by describing the successes and future plans of the Commission. She said the Commission has been established as part of Pakistan's compliance with Paris Principles, which requires greater autonomy of National Human Rights Institutions.
