Shopkeepers protest sealing of shops.

OKARA -- Shopkeepers shut their shops in protest at the sealing of 32 shops in the old municipal committee street by the chief officer (CO) of the Okara Municipal Corporation (OMC).

The CO took action over default by shopkeepers on rent for a long time. Shopkeepers, however, say their case was pending in the Lahore High Court.

There are 63 shops in the OMC market and shopkeepers have not paid any rent since 2000 taking the cover of lengthy lawsuit.

According to shopkeepers' spokespersons Muhammad Anwaar and Nadeem Iqbal, their cases are pending in the LHC in the court of Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi against the OMC administration and CO Fida Iftikhar Mir unlawfully sealed shops causing heavy losses to them.

Shopkeepers held a sit-in at the market on Dipalpur Road.
