Senate body for appointing one official of GENCO as BoD member.

ISLAMABAD -- Senate Committee on Power has noted that 42 officials of one distribution company are working as members of the Board of Directors of other power companies and recommended that one official should be appointed as member of one BOD.

The committee which met with Senator Saifullah Abro in the chair also asked the government that instead of providing free units to the employees of power sector adjust this amount in their salaries.

Earlier the committee showed its annoyance over the absence of the Federal Minister for Energy and Secretary Power from the meeting. This is the seventh meeting and the Federal Minister for Energy is not attending it. Senator Hidayatullah and Senator Prince Ahmad Umar boycotted the meeting over the absence of the minister and secretary. However, they were brought back by the fellow committee members. Chairman of the committee said that he will write letter to Chairman Senate against the non serious behaviour of the officials of Power Division.

The committee meeting was postponed for a while but later it resumed its proceedings. On the issue of sending the electricity bills to the consumers on the basis of 37 days cycle, additional secretary Power Division informed the committee that explanation has been sought from the CEOs of the concerned Discos.
