Seminar highlights drug abuse among youth.

LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force, Punjab region, arranged an awareness seminar on prevention of drug use in youth on its city campus in Lahore on Thursday.

Prof Dr Noorul Zaman Rafiq delivered a lecture to UVAS students on drug abuse in youth, drug prevention and treatment, harms from drug use, addiction risk factors and drugs types like cigarette, opium, heroine, opiates and ice crystal.

He said the prevention of drugs in youth could be done through launching awareness campaigns through declamation and poster contests, on-campus anti-drug societies, and the media.

Dr Rafiq urged both teachers and students to play their role in sensitizing communities about the harmful effects of drug usage. A large number of students from different departments of UVAS were present.

SEMINAR: An international seminar on the history and future of Punjabi language was held at the Government College University on Thursday by its Punjabi Department.

Eminent writer Mian Ejazul Hassan chaired the seminar which also was marked by a keynote address by eminent Indian Punjabi writer and journalist Sukirat.
