Rulers' dependence on institutions poses danger to democracy: JI.

SUKKUR -- Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan naib emir Liaquat Baloch has said that there is no danger to democracy from opposition's protest and the real danger to the system comes from rulers' overreliance on institutions instead of democracy or people.

The rulers must learn lessons from the past that the state's institutions could not save them from crisis and only people and dialogue with opposition could save them, said Baloch while talking to media persons here on Friday.

He said that Imran Khan had been claiming all along that he enjoyed complete support of the establishment but still he had not so far taken any 'brave' steps on the issue of Kashmir.

He said that opposition had right to protest but they should not take law in their hands, nor should the government take unconstitutional steps to stop them. 'We are praying for the success of Maulana Fazlur Rehman but it is a serious challenge for the maulana himself as well as the government,' he said.

He said the Constitution had provision for mid-term election, so the demand for fresh polls was not unconstitutional. The Jamiat UlemaA-i-Islam-Fazl had unilaterally decided to launch long march and then sought support from other opposition parties, he added.

'As for JI, it is no longer a part of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal since genAeAral election,' as the JI had made its own strategy. At present, Kashmir was its first priority while others too should never overlook the issue as the whole nation was united against Narendra Modi.

Baloch said in answer to a question that rulers were not supposed to adopt unconstitutional, undemocratic and dictatorial attitude towards opposition. They should instead resolve all irritants with opposition through dialogue.

Baloch said that all governments had right to complete five years in rule but they could not be allowed to snatch economic and employment rights of people, privatise national institutions...
