RAWALPINDI -- The regional police officer (RPO) and chief traffic officer (CTO) distributed free helmets to motorcyclists on Peshawar Road on Thursday.

It is mandatory for motorcyclists to wear helmets when on the road, but many head injuries have been reported despite this because most of the helmets sold in the market do not meet safety standards.

CTO Mohammad Bin Ashraf and RPO Sohail Habib Tajik distributed safety helmets among motorcyclists on Thursday under the police's 'friendly policing' initiative.

A traffic police spokesperson said that the move aimed to persuade motorcycle riders to wear helmets for their own safety. A large number of students from Riphah University were also present.
