APROPOS the article by Rauf Parekh 'Haji Richard Burton: a mysterious orientalist and his Haj travelogue' (Oct 15).

It was very informative but there were some facts that he did not mention. He wrote that Richard Burton was proficient in 29 languages. He has named some of them, but he has neglected to mention Sindhi.

Sir Burton lived in Sindh and he learned Sindhi, as all officers working there at that time were required to do.
