Resurrecting IS.

The twin suicide attack by the Islamic State (IS) in Baghdad, leaving 32 dead and more than 100 injured, shows that the group is re-organising in the region once more. The suicide blasts caution us that the threat of IS still looms large over Iraq. The attacks raise questions about the Iraqi forces' preparedness in the face of militant threat. The blasts are a reminder of one of the conflicts Biden administration has to make some quick decisions about.

But the urgency to make a swift decision to save the region from chaos must not push it towards further instability. The deteriorating security situation in Iraq needs smart and intelligent moves from stakeholders. Otherwise, violence in the country-especially IS-induced in northern Iraq-that has not abated can shatter the sense of relative security that the people felt in recent times.

While the world condemns the attack as a senseless act of brutality, IS continues to rely on violence as a bargaining tool. The Afghan government's gradual capitulation before the Taliban sets a negative precedent for IS. The militant's outfit strategy is similar to that of the Taliban. A...
