Reconstruction of Kohat hospital demanded.

KOHAT -- Civil society and political activists have appealed to the government for early reconstruction of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital, whose building had been declared dangerous in 2010.

The building has not been renovated since its construction in 1952.

Jamaat-i-Islami, Kohat emir Haji Abid, Masood Khalil of Awami National Party, chairman of Sons of Kohat Asadullah, president of paramedics' body Rashid Bokhari, representative of Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry Haji Rasheed Paracha and Ameer Afridi of bazaar union criticised the government for razing half of the hospital's building for reconstruction, but 'abandoning' it due to 'lack' of funds.

They said the LMH, which had been renamed as the women and children hospital, catered to the health needs of people from Kohat to Parachinar.

Meanwhile, medical superintendent Dr Hashim Bokhari said the hospital building had completed its lifespan. He said roof of the building leaked in rains.
