RDA planning to construct three commercial buildings.

RAWALPINDI -- The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) plans to construct three commercial buildings to generate revenue and will begin work after it receives a go-ahead from its governing body after Eidul Fitr.

The buildings will be constructed at at Liaquat Bagh, in Sherpao Colony and on Saidpur Road on land belonging to the RDA, on a public-private partnership basis.

A senior RDA official told Dawn that the authority is currently using the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) building for its offices, and cannot afford to construct an official building of its own.

He said the RDA wanted to use 10 kanals of land in Civil Lines for commercial purposes, but the matter is pending in court.

The RDA therefore decided to use its land in Sherpao Colony and on Saidpur Road for this purpose, he said.

The RDA has not developed any housing schemes in its jurisdiction in 30 years because there is not vacant land available.

'The RDA wanted to construct a new low-income housing scheme along Islamabad Expressway and it will start work in this regard after approval from the RDA's governing body,' he added.
