RAWALPINDI -- Like other parts of the country, black day was also observed in the garrison city on Sunday to express solidarity with the people of India-held Kashmir who had been struggling for securing their rights.

The government departments displayed banners and hoardings at prominent places to highlight Kashmir issue. Political parties, district administration and the education department arranged special programmes, walks, seminars and photo exhibitions to highlight the plight of the oppressed Kashmiris.

The Auqaf administrator arranged special prayers for the Kashmiri martyrs. Black flags decrying Indian occupation of Kashmir were hoisted on all the educational institutions, health centres and government offices while the officials wore black armbands.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Saifullah Dogar said the black day was observed to pay tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir who had sacrificed their lives for freedom and those who were facing curfew for the last about three months.

World asked to help stop human rights violations in India-held Kashmir

He said Kashmir was a disputed territory between Pakistan and India and the United Nations should send its observers to see human rights violations in the area. He said the world must press the Indian government to stop gross human rights violations in held Kashmir.

Rawalpindi Arts Council held a photographic exhibition depicting Indian atrocities on the innocent people of Kashmir and also screened a documentary on Kashmir issue. Tableaus and speeches by schoolchildren were also part of a ceremony held to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

PTI MPA Simabia Tahir was the chief guest while RAC deputy director Sajjad Khan, artists and students of different schools attended the function.
