Rain mitigates drought's impact in Cholistan.

BAHAWALPUR -- The much-awaited rain on Sunday brought some relief to the whole region, especially the drought-hit areas of Cholistan desert, and all the tehsils of Bahawalpur.

The desert and all the tehsils of the district, including Yazman, Hasilpur, Ahmedpur East, Uch Sharif and Khairpur Tamewali, received heavy rain. There is a forecast for more rain on Monday (today) and Tuesday (tomorrow).

After the rain in the desert, rainwater accumulated in the ponds (Tobas) and reduced the effect of drought-like conditions to some extent in Cholistan. Although the open water ponds did not fill up to the brim and needed more rains in the coming days, yet a reasonable quantity of rainwater accumulated in the ponds, which would be able to quench the thirst of humans as well as their herds for some time.

It may be recalled that Cholistan had been in the grip of a severe shortage of drinking water in recent months and the divisional and district administrations, in addition to a number of government departments, including Rescue 1122 and the Punjab Disaster...
