Punjab govt endorses 'military trial' of rioters.

LAHORE -- The Punjab caretaker government has endorsed the decision to book under military laws the arsonists who attacked military installations.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on Tuesday, one day after a special Corps Commanders Conference (CCC) resolved to prosecute miscreants who were involved in the vandalism of military properties under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secrets Act.

A statement issued after the meeting, presided over by caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi, said the CCC decision was unanimously approved.

The interim chief minister has also directed the authorities to expedite the process of identifying and arresting those involved in the May 9 riots. The participants stressed the need for close collaboration among security agencies to identify the suspects, their facilitators and the masterminds.

The meeting was informed that the Nadra's data was being used to identify culprits, the statement said, adding that the suspects were being identified with the help of geofencing.

Foolproof procedures would be followed to validate the charges against the accused to prevent the wrongful arrest of innocent individuals, it said.The Punjab...
