PTI lawmaker allowed to run day-to-day affairs of LG commission.

ISLAMABAD -- The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has asked the government to f rame rules related to the appointment of the chairman Islamabad Local Government (LG) Commission in six months.

The court allowed Special Assistant to Prime Minister onCapital Development Authority (CDA) Ali Nawaz Awan to continue working as the chairman but conduct day-to-day business only.

In its detailed order issued on Saturday, the court said the chairman of the LG commission is neither allowed to take any major decision nor can initiate any proceeding against incumbent Mayor of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (MCI) Sheikh Anser Aziz.

The IHC earlier this week set aside the notification for the appointment of Mr Awan as the LG commission chairman.

Soon after assuming the office of the LC commission by Mr Awan, anMNA of the ruling PTI, the commission had initiated proceedings against Mr Aziz in February but the court issued a stay order in the matter.

In May, the commission suspended the mayor for 90 days over corruption charges in the award of the contract of the G-9 bus stand. However, since the proceedings against Mr Aziz were not taken in accordance with the law, the IHC reversed the suspension.

In the detailed order, IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani held that the appointment of Mr Awan as the LG commission chairman was not made in a transparent manner rather wasdone in a whimsical manner and without giving fair opportunity to the persons entitled for this post.

Relying on the Supreme Court judgement passed on the extension of army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the court allowed Mr Awan to resume his of fice till the rules related to the appointment of the chairman are approved.
