Protest against police over 'extrajudicial murder' of two suspects.

SANGHAR -- A large number of people held a demonstration and sit-in in Khipro town on Friday in protest against 'extrajudicial murder' of two suspects by Sanghar police in an alleged staged encounter a couple of days ago.

The protesters including members of Roonjha community, Sarwari Jamaat, Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party, Awami Tehreek and general public marched through different roads carrying placards, banners and portraits of the victims before reaching Shaheed Chowk where they held the protest.

The protesters' leaders rejected police version of the encounter and claimed that the suspects Ali Hyder Roonjho and Soomar Mahar were in police custody when they were mercilessly gunned down. Police shot them to death from point blank range, they claimed.

They said that it was not an encounter but premeditated murder in custody. Both the suspects were arrested on charges of involvement in the abduction of local trader Gulab Rai who was set free by his kidnappers after a 'deal' with local MNA of ruling party and her close associates, they alleged.

They accused SSP of Sanghar, DSP and SHO of Khipro police station of being involved in the custodial killings of the suspects. SHO had demanded Rs1 million bribe for releasing Ali Hyder after he was arrested on charges of kidnapping the trader, they said.
