PPP asks govt to justify Ehtesab commission's abolition.

PESHAWAR -- PPP provincial president Humayun Khan on Friday asked the PTI government to justify the abolition of the KP Ehtesab Commission after spending huge funds on it over the years.

He also criticised the appointment of a treasury member as the public accounts committee's chairman and declared it against parliamentary traditions.

Addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club, the PPP leader said the government had spent huge sums of money on the KPEC over the years before doing away with it lately.

'The government should issue the details of the taxpayers' money recovered by the KPEC from the corrupt people,' he said.

Mr Humayun said the abolition of the commission proved that it was formed for a specific period to victimise the ruling party's political opponents in the province and had nothing to do with the recovery of looted national wealth or elimination of corruption.

Accompanied by PPP Women's Wing president and MPA Nighat Orakzai, provincial vice- president Ayub Shah and city president Zulfiqar Afghani, he criticised the appointment of provincial assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani as the PAC chairman and said the government's move exposed the double standard of the ruling PTI.

He said a member from the opposition parties should be made the PAC chairman in line with parliamentary traditions to ensure the accountability of the government.

The PPP leader voiced concern about the escalating cost of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project and alleged the embezzlement of the mega project's funds.
