PMA protests 'violation of merit' at Nishtar varsity.

MULTAN -- The Pakistan Medical Association's Multan chapter has criticised the VC's decision to 'assign administrative responsibilities at the Nishtar Medical University (NMU) to junior doctors.'

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, the association representatives led by its senior vice president Dr Tariq Waqar said more than one and a half year has passed but due to incompetence of the administration, the affairs of the university could not be streamlined.

'The university is facing many problems such as the fact that neither the programmes including postgraduate diploma, MPhil and PhD could be initiated in all the departments nor has the issue of the shortage of faculty been addressed,' he said.

He said that on Nov 20, an office order was issued by the vice chancellor office in which junior doctors had been given important administrative posts in violation of the university act and merit.

'Giving important posts to juniors while ignoring the seniors will bring bad name to the institution. The PMA being the only representative body of doctors will raise its voice,' he said.
