LAHORE -- Expressing concern over further increase in Pakistan's ranking on global corruption perception list, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Senator Sirajul Haq has said the prime minister claims to end the menace and introduce across the board accountability are based on lies.

'Corruption is eating up the country like termites do. Honest leadership, ulema and mashaikh should come forward to lead the masses to get rid of the corrupt elite,' Senator Sirajul Haq said while addressing Ulema Convention at Mansoora on Thursday. Pakistan lost four positions in 2020 compared to 2019 and seven positions compared to 2018, he said, adding in 2019, Pakistan ranked 120th on the global corruption list and 117 in 2018.

The PTI government failed to strengthen the concept of across the board accountability in past two and half years. Not only in the field of accountability, but the decline was visible in other sectors too, he said. The prime minister made claims to bring revolution in health and education sectors but Pakistan was ranked at 154th place among 195 countries when it came to the matter of providing healthcare facilities to masses.
