People shiver as city temperature drops to 9AdegC.

KARACHI -- A cold wave developed by strong winds and drop in temperature gripped the city on Wednesday as the meteorological department forecast similar weather conditions for Thursday (today).

The department recorded 9 degrees Celsius and 20.4AdegC as the minimum and maximum temperatures whereas humidity ranged between 23 per cent (in the evening) and 68 per cent (in the morning).

The wind speed ranged between 15 nautical miles and 26 nautical miles.

'It's the coldest day so far. Strong winds blowing the whole day, made it chillier, apart from prolonged consistency in cold temperature,' said Sardar Sarfaraz, the Met department spokesperson.

In contrast to recent weeks, which had the maximum temperature ranging between 23 AdegC and 25AdegC, the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 20.4AdegC, he said.

Mr Sarfaraz forecast change in weather pattern when a westerly wave would be entering Balochistan from Iran by the evening of Jan 5.

'This system would influence 80 to 90 per cent of the country with hilly areas likely to receive snowfall and rain,' he said, adding that this weather pattern was likely to end by Jan 8 to Jan 9.
