PEF MD removed for concealing facts.

LAHORE -- Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi on Friday restrained Managing Director Shamim Asif from working, allegedly for concealing facts and stopping funds to some schools.

Mr Abbasi, an MPA, had submitted a privilege motion in the assembly, levelling various allegations against Mr Asif.

The Committee on Privileges held a meeting on June 4 attended by its chairman MPA Ali Akhtar, seven other members, Mr Abbasi and School Education Secretary Sarah Aslam.

The privilege motion, available with Dawn, stated that Mr Asif had stopped funds to some of the schools on allegations that their students were fake.

Mr Abbasi said the PEF MD should have inquired into the matter properly before stopping the funds because his action could create financial crisis for the staff. The MD had refused to do so though he had also advised him to call a meeting of the PEF board of governors (BoG) to resolve the issue but he ignored it. He alleged that the MD also called the BoG members not to attend the meeting called by the PEF chairman.
