THE US and Afghan Taliban have clinched a historic deal for peace in Afghanistan in Qatar. Afghanistan has been in war for the last 40 years.

First, the Soviet Union and then the US invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and 2001 respectively. Both occupied Afghanistan and fought against the Mujahideen, Taliban and Al Qaeda for decades.

War in Afghanistan has affected the whole region but Pakistan has suffered more than any other country. The US also spent one trillion dollars in the conflict and lost almost 2,400 soldiers.

Thousands of Afghans were martyred in air strikes, suicide bombings and Nato-Taliban skirmishes. In Afghanistan, proxies of different regional and world powers added fuel to the fire.
