Paternity leave is of 30 days not three months, Senator Marri clarifies.

LAHORE -- Senator Quratulain Marri of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has clarified that paid paternity leave is of thirty days not three months.

While talking to a private TV channel, she said that a father can avail leave of thirty days thrice in his work life.

'Somehow the part of bill concerning paternity leave was misinterpreted in media. It's not three months but thirty days paid leave for father. As far as the mother is concerned, she can avail a six-month leave for first child, four-month for second child and three-months for third child. After that it will be an unpaid leave,' she said.

The senator added that the bill has been proposed for both public and private leave.

Sharing her views on Hammaz Azhar's comments, she said that she was surprised to hear him in the assembly.

'This bill was discussed with everyone in senate's committee and now that the bill has been passed and presented in the house, Hammad Azhar is opposing it which makes zero sense,' she said.

She added that she was not making comparison or competition with any country.
