RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD -- The district is considering sealing parts of Rawal Town because of the rising number of Covid-19 patients, after dozens of new cases emerged in Rawalpindi district and five patients died.

At least 3,392 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Rawalpindi district, with 130 deaths and 1,962 recoveries. At present, 907 patients are isolated in their homes and 383 are still admitted to hospital. Another 56 patients, five deaths and 17 recoveries were reported on Monday.

There were also 178 suspected cases reported on Monday, and 6,692 people who have to be screened.

The number of police officials who have contracted the disease has reached 52 in the district, while Jhelum district has not reported any cases of Covid-19 within the police.

Islamabad reports another record rise in Covid-19 infections

There were 36 violations of coronavirus prevention standard operating procedures (SOP) reported on Monday, as authorities continued to try to contain the spread of the coronavirus by local transmission.

The district administration sealed 16 shops in the downtown area and fined owners Rs66,000, and impounded 34 vehicles for violating SOPs and owners were fined Rs49,500. Four people have also been arrested for violating SOPs.

A senior district administration official told Dawn they are considering sealing parts of the Rawal Town because of the rising number of infections there. Most of the patients have been reported from Pirwadhai to Ratta Amral, where social distancing guidelines and directions to wear masks and gloves have not been followed.

1,406 cases reported in capital in two days

Three deaths and 1,406 cases of Covid-19 were reported in Islamabad in the last two days.

The capital saw yet another record increase in cases on Sunday, with 771 new infections reported. Three patients, who lived in G-9, Bhara Kahu and Chak Shahzad, have also died.

There were 73 cases reported over the weekend from I-8, followed by 55 from Bahria Town, 51 from G-9, 49 each from G-6 and I-10, 44 from F-8, 45 from G-8, 42 from G-10, 40 from G-7, 37 from Bhara Kahu, 35 from the Defence Housing Authority, 34 from Tarlai, 31 from G-11, 30 from F-6, 29 each from F-10 and I-9, 25 from Chak Shahzad, 24 from F-11, 23 from E-11, 20 from G-13, 19 from PWD, 16 each from F-7, Shah Allah Ditta, Ghouri Town and F-5, 15 each from Khanna and Soan Garden, 13 each form Korang Town and Sohan, nine each from G-5, Sihala and...
