Participation of women in elections stressed.

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan in its awareness campaign for enhancing turnout of female voters in elections has urged the students and teachers to extend full cooperation to the commission for ensuring participation of maximum people, particularly women, in the election process.

Speaking at a seminar here on Thursday, provincial election commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmad urged the academia and students to play their role in creation of awareness among the people, especially women, to register and also cast their votes in elections, according to a press release.

He said in addition to registration of voters, casting of vote was also essential to establish a true and sustainable democratic system in the country.

The ECP, he said, was determined to ensure participation of all segments of the society in electoral process.

He said that all the stakeholders should join hands to help enhance the turnout of female voters in particular.
