Pakistan's economy: The real game changer.

Pakistan was created in a highly difficult and clamorous time. This was further fuelled by religious riots in which a lot of blood was shed, thus leaving scars of antagonism on both India and Pakistan. Pakistan, the weaker of the two new states found itself with an onerous burden, with the influx of a larger number of refugees, war on princely states and millions of people who came 'home' deranged and empty-handed. It's hard to imagine that such an infant state managed to survive for more than 74 years and not only survive, but thrive-into a country which is a constant centre of attraction for foreign investors is truly remarkable.

2020 is marked by scars: From the unprecedented coronavirus to massive explosions in Beirut, all signalling that the life of a global citizen will not return to normalcy anytime soon. On the other hand, that is not the case with Pakistan. While the rest of the world and South Asia is suffering from a rising number of coronavirus cases, Pakistan has managed to flatten the curve by successfully implementing the smart lockdown along with SOPs.

Many civil officers have lost their lives in the line of duty but still they ensured effective implementation of SOPs to safeguard human life. The impact is so humongous that even the president-elect of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Volkan Bozkir, praised Pakistan's efforts by saying, 'Pakistan has been a good example to the world with its policies related to the global pandemic. It has performed better than any other country in dealing with the global pandemic and I am happy to observe it also with my own eyes.'

Moreover, the pandemic shrank the global economy quite considerably. Investors withdrew huge sums of money from emerging markets and stocks across the globe plunged to record...
