'PAC should have proper representation of opposition parties'.

KARACHI -- Sindh Audit Director General Miandad Rahoojo and Governor Imran Ismail on Wednesday agreed that the provincial public accounts committee (PAC) of Sindh Assembly should have proper representation of the opposition and it would be an appropriate gesture to appoint the chairman of the body from the opposition benches as was the case in the centre and Punjab.

'The Sindh audit director general in fact apprised the governor about the mechanism of the PAC which most of the time doesn't face any critical analysis from any side because its formation doesn't cater for the proper representation of the opposition parties,' said a source citing discussion at the meeting.

'The governor agreed with the director general and cited his past stance when he argued for the opposition member as chairman of the PAC. The same precedent has been adopted in Punjab and the centre, and it should also be followed in Sindh,' said the source privy to this development.

The source said the Sindh audit official complained that there was no representation of opposition in the Sindh Assembly's PAC, therefore, 'one-sided debate' was taking place in the legislature's body.

Meanwhile, according to an official statement, Governor Ismail observed that transparent use of official funds was imperative as it was sacred trust of the people.
