Over 300 children with thalassaemia receive blood.

MINGORA -- Over 300 children with thalassaemia from different areas of Malakand division on Friday received blood on the World Thalassaemia Day.

The blood transfusion activity was carried out at Al Fajar Foundation, an organisation providing free blood transfusion services to such patients in the division.

Organisers of the activity said they marked the day not only to facilitate the thalassaemia patients in blood transfusion but also honour them for not giving up in the fight against the genetic blood disorder.

'Every year we celebrate the World Thalassaemia Day by organising an awareness walk in different parts of Swat, but this time amid the coronavirus outbreak we marked the day by arranging the blood transfusion for the patients, and 370 children from different parts of Malakand division got blood transfusion today,' said Rahman Ali Sahil, the administrator at Al-Fajar Foundation.

He said the coronavirus outbreak had affected blood collection and transfusion activities, but they carried out the task following the social distancing protocols.
