Over 1,000 awarded degrees at SSUET convocation.

Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) organised its 22nd convocation on Thursday on its campus where more than 1,000 students were awarded bachelors and masters degrees.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail congratulated the students on their success and urged them to show their best to the world.

Regretting that girls proving their mettle in higher education were not being given the social status they deserved, he said: 'I feel sorry that highly educated and qualified girls are involved in petty domestic work after marriage and often treated as housemaids.

If provided an opportunity, these girls [can] not only earn decent money with their skills and education but also prove to be a valuable human resource for the nation.'

Sindh Minister for Works and Services Syed Nasir Hussain Shah urged graduating students to continue updating their education and skills.

'Higher education broadens vision and prepares you to face the challenges of life and hardships,' he remarked.

He announced on behalf of the government to build hostels with modern facilities in the 'Education City' project (proposed in Karachi's suburbs) and increase the pace of development in that area.

Earlier, university Chancellor Jawaid Anwar highlighted SSUET's future plans whereas Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Afzal Haq informed the audience about university's achievements and progress.
