Opposition sought relaxation in NAB laws to protect 'stolen assets': Shibli.

ISLAMABAD -- Information Minister Shibli Faraz on Monday claimed that opposition parties had tried to blackmail the government on the matter of passing Financial Action Task Force (FATF) related bills from the Parliament to secure relief in corruption and money laundering cases.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said opposition parties had demanded amending 34 of 38 clauses of NAB laws related to money laundering, assets beyond means and others. He claimed that modifications proposed by the opposition parties would have provided their leaders relief in the corruption and money laundering cases.

'The proposed amendments would benefit Saad Rafique, Khurshid Shah and several other opposition leaders facing NAB references,' said the minister.

They wouldn't have launched the anti-government PDM movement had the PTI-led government succumbed to their blackmailing on FATF bills, he maintained.
