New Pashto novel showcases political upheavals across Durand Line.

PESHAWAR -- Speakers at a literary event have asked youth to read extensively to understand political engineering of situations being developed around us. They said it was good that young people took interest in raising awareness regarding societal changes and its wholesome impact on the lives of people.

These views were expressed at a launch ceremony held at Bacha Khan Markaz, here on Friday. The newly-published Pashto book titled 'Torgham', a novel authored by young Afghan writer Azizullah Karwan, showcases the political upheavals across the Durand Line.

Speakers threw light on various aspects of the fiction book in great detail. The title 'Torgham' was symbolic of Torkham gate that had witnessed the untold sufferings of swarms of displaced families across the border.

Poets, writers and literary critics attended the event in large numbers. Prof Fazalur Rahim Marwat in his address stated that the author

had unfolded the story of a family which went through numerous ordeals due to the political conflict.

Azizullah Karwan, author of the book, presented a summary of the story saying that the main objective of the novel was to tell a story generated by the intriguing political situation devouring his romance, language, history and collective political consciousness.

Prof Samiuddin Arman on the occasion said the writer had tried his best to reinforce the narrative of his people, who had earned the reputation of depravity, horrors of war and violence. It showed a political consciousness...
