Motorway mayhem.

IT was my misfortunate that I had to drive on the motorway from Islamabad to Lahore on the day the opposition was holding its rally in Lahore.

While I expected some traffic problems due to the rally, what I witnessed was complete chaos and violation of traffic rules.

Vehicles, including buses loaded with political supporters, drove on both shoulders, disrupting traffic. Even more disappointing was the fact that the motorway police chose to disappear from the scene.

Only at two places were some timid signs of the police visible. I had nothing but sympathy for the two drivers I saw being booked for overspeeding...
