Model court sends killer to jail for life.

KARACHI -- A model court has awarded life imprisonment to an accused for killing a woman over refusing his marriage proposal.

Shakeel Ahmed was found guilty of murdering Faiza Khalil for refusing his proposal to marry her younger sister in Liaquatabad within the remit of Supermarket police station.

Additional District and Sessions' Judge Liaquat Ali Khoso of the model criminal trial court (Central) pronounced his verdict reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.

The judge noted that the prosecution case was not based on ocular evidence of the prosecution witnesses. However, the circumstantial evidence successfully proved the charges against the accused beyond any reasonable doubt.

Therefore, the judge awarded lenient sentence of life imprisonment and also ordered the convict to pay Rs500,000 compensation to the legal heirs of the victim or undergo six months imprisonment on default.

The convict was sent to prison to serve out the remaining portion of his sentences.

According to the prosecution, the convict told Faiza Khalil that he had fallen in love with her younger sister Iqra and wanted to marry her. But the victim refused his proposal, it added.
