Military dictator imposed war against terrorism upon Pakistan to prolong his reign: Khawaja Asif.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif, while participating in the debate in the national assembly on the constitutional amendment bill regarding enhancing the seats of the tribal districts in the national assembly and the provincial assembly, has said that military dictator imposed the war against terrorism upon Pakistan to prolong his reign, saying that they (Pakistan) have been suffering till today.

While addressing in the national assembly on Friday, Khawaja Asif condemned Pakistan's role in the 1979 Afghan War and maintained that the nation had no enmity with the erstwhile Soviet Union.

'We don't even know why we refer to it as jihad,' commented Khawaja Asif while addressing the lower house.

Keeping the war-torn state of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) in view, the PML-N leader said that the government should utilize its maximum provincial and federal resources for the rehabilitation of the tribal districts.

'The people of Fata were on the frontlines in the war against terrorism,' he said, adding that the nation needs to work night and day to erase the 'dastardly' history.

'Peace had indeed been restored in the tribal belt,' the former foreign minister told the National Assembly, accrediting the Pakistan Army for its sacrifices in the operation.

Khawaja Asif acknowledged that there were no cross-border incursions and drone attacks occurring any longer and that the fault lines had been contained. 'Pakistan decided to create a fence along the Durand Line for purposes of strengthening security,' he continued.

Khawaja Asif reminded that the people of tribal districts have suffered immensely as a result of war on terrorism. He said the Federal and Provincial governments should allocate maximum resources for the rehabilitation of tribal districts.

He said it is a historic occasion that a consensus constitutional amendment has been brought to give representation to these districts in the National and KPK assemblies.
