THIS refers to the news item 'Media curbs on absconders, convicts in the offing' (Dec 11). This should actually read as 'media curbs on political rivals'. Some time ago, we missed out all of Maryam Nawaz's speeches when she had been blacked out.

This curb does not stem from ethical requirements. It is more a sign of insecurity of the ruling class and its intolerance of political rivals, as the ruling elite wants to be the only ones hogging all media space, as was the dictators' practice. The elite thinks this will lengthen its...
