'Media City and Revolving Fund' for artists proposed.

LAHORE -- A meeting of the Artist Support Fund Committee on Tuesday decided to set up a 'Media City and Revolving Fund' to promote the arts and help artists.

Chairing the meeting at Alhamra Art Centre, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Mian Aslam Iqbal directed the information secretary to present a comprehensive plan for setting up of the media city and fund.

The meeting also discussed 40 cases of financial assistance for deserving artists. In light of the recommendations of a sub-committee, financial support will be extended to them.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Iqbal said: 'Our artists are a valuable asset of society and we understand their difficulties. The services of artists are important for societal development and we acknowledge and support their work.'

He further stated that the Punjab government was working hard to promote the arts and solve the problems of the artist community. It was the state's responsibility to support deserving artists, who will also be provided with health insurance cards.

MPA Sadia Sohail Rana, Information Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Lahore Arts Council executive director and other members of the Artist Support Fund Committee attended the meeting.
