Marchers to be checked for weapons, non-custom paid vehicles.

ISLAMABAD -- The participants of 'Azadi march' will be checked for weapons and non-custom paid vehicles for which a mechanism has been prepared.

This was announced at a high-level meeting held to review security arrangements for the march here at the interior ministry.

Informed sources said the decision had been taken after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday warned against a bid to smuggle non-custom paid vehicles by some unscrupulous elements in the garb of the march which was scheduled to reach Islamabad on Thursday (today).

The meeting, presided over by the interior secretary, was told that the mechanism had already been shared with the JUI-F leadership.

The meeting reviewed the security situation keeping in view all possible threats and problems.

It was decided that the police would serve as the first layer of security while the Rangers would perform their duties as a second tier. The army's services will be acquired to protect sensitive buildings.

Besides representatives of the army, Rangers and law enforcement agencies, the meeting was attended by the Islamabad chief commissioner, Islamabad inspector general of police and senior officials of the district administration.

The meeting affirmed that the government would fully cooperate with those abiding by the terms of the agreement.

It was pointed out that marchers had been allowed to come to Islamabad through a decided route via Rawat.
