Kohat butchers threaten strike against abattoir contractor.

KOHAT -- The local butchers have threatened to go on strike on the first day of Ramazan against increase in prices by the contractor of abattoir for goats and buffaloes, absence of lights and unhygienic condition of slaughter house.

They also condemned the accumulation of waste of animals and pools of blood in the slaughterhouse due to the ongoing jurisdiction tussle between the tehsil municipal administration (TMA) and the water supply and sanitation company (WSSC) over the responsibility of daily cleanliness.

They demanded implementation of rates given to the contractor in July every year and censored overcharging them of Rs100 against the rate of Rs30 per goat by him.

They said that four months were remaining for the revision of the contract's rates but he raised them illegally. The fighting between them was a daily scene with nobody taking any action, they added.

The president of the union of butchers, Bilal Khan, invited chairman Abid Khan and other office-bearers of grand business alliance for a visit to the slaughterhouse.

After witnessing the conditions, they supported the protest call by butchers and expressed anguish over the silence of the deputy commissioner despite repeated appeals for immediate solution to all the problems faced by butchers.
