traffic is a chaotic mess that has made citizens' lives miserable. The ever-increasing number of vehicles, people's reluctance to follow traffic rules and regulations and the pathetic condition of some major thoroughfares are some of the major reasons for this situation.

The major reason, however, for the traffic mayhem is the absence of a mass transit system for the city. This is a city of almost 20 million souls but the number of buses and minibuses on the roads is not more than 5,000 vehicles.
